The History of Israel and the Church

Twelve Old Testament (OT) books from Joshua through Esther carry the story of Israel — entering the Promised Land, building (and losing) a kingdom, and returning from exile. One New Testament (NT) book joins them: Acts, which picks up after the Gospels and documents the creation of the Church. Christian Bibles group these together by genre, while the Jewish canon distributes the OT twelve across the Nevi'im (Former Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings).
